For more than half a century, Bún Chả Đắc Kim has been the address for bun cha in Hanoi’s Old Quarter. At 1 Hang Manh Street, a five-storey building with the Đắc Kim brand has been grilling pork over charcoal and serving it with vermicelli, fresh herbs, and a tangy dipping sauce. The restaurant is proud of its heritage: “the oldest and most famous bun cha restaurant,” beloved by locals and recognized internationally through countless TV shows, radio programs, and newspaper articles. In 2026, that reputation earned a Michelin Recommended award, placing it among the city’s essential street food experiences.
The focus is squarely on bun cha – grilled fatty pork patties and slices of pork belly served in a bowl of warm, sweet-sour broth alongside a mound of rice vermicelli. The setup is simple, the flavours direct. The restaurant’s longevity speaks to consistency: the same family-run operation has been serving the same dish for decades. The dining room is no-frills, often crowded, with the energy of a classic Hanoi street food joint. The restaurant itself notes a poetic line: “A thousand-year treasure of Thang Long land, is this bun cha?” – a nod to its place in the city’s culinary heritage.
Customers are advised to look for the large five-storey building with the Đắc Kim sign, as a fake store operates directly opposite. The original location at 1 Hang Manh Street is also joined by a second outlet at 67 Đường Thành, as well as other branches across the city, but the Hang Manh address remains the flagship.
