Who we are

Wattafork (“we”, “us”, “our”) is operated by Redbeard Innovation Kft. This policy explains how we handle information when you visit wattafork.com and use our interactive restaurant map, guide and restaurant pages.

You don't need an account to use Wattafork, and we don't ask for your name or email to browse. We don't use advertising, and we don't sell or rent your information.

We count page views with Umami, a cookieless analytics tool we host ourselves at a.ghj.io. Your browser loads one script from that server. It records the page, the referring page, your browser, device, language and screen size, and the country of your IP address. It does not use cookies, and it does not store your IP address or name.

What we collect

• Your IP address. Your browser sends it with every request, like on any website. We use it to guess your city so the map opens near you, and it appears in our server logs.
• Your last map position. When you move the map, we remember its centre and zoom level in your session, so the map opens in the same place next time.
• Technical request data. Our server logs record the pages requested, the time, your browser type and any error messages, which we use to keep the site running and secure.
• Emails you send us. If you write to us, we receive your email address and whatever you include in your message.

How we find your city

To centre the map, we look up your IP address in our own geolocation service, which runs on our servers. It returns the approximate centre of a city, never your exact location, and we don't use your device's GPS. We keep the result for each IP address for up to 7 days so we don't repeat the lookup on every visit.

Cookies

We only use cookies the site needs to work. None of them track you across other websites.

• csrftoken: protects the map's search and filter forms against forged requests. Kept for up to 1 year.
• sessionid: links your browser to your session, which stores your last map position. Kept for up to 2 weeks.
• wtf_welcomed: remembers that you've seen the welcome message, so we don't show it again. Kept for up to 1 year.

You can delete or block cookies in your browser settings. If you block them, the map's search and filters may stop working, and the map won't remember where you left off.

Services we rely on

A few providers help us run Wattafork. Each one only receives what it needs to do its job:

• Hetzner (Germany) hosts our servers, database and file storage. All the data described above is stored with Hetzner in the EU.
• Cloudflare delivers the map tiles. Your browser downloads them directly from Cloudflare, which therefore sees your IP address.
• Umami (a.ghj.io) counts page views, as described above. We host it ourselves. Your browser loads the script from that server, which therefore sees your IP address.

Cloudflare may process data outside the EU, under its own privacy policy and the EU's standard safeguards for international transfers. Map data comes from © OpenStreetMap contributors. We may also disclose information if the law requires it.

Why we're allowed to do this

We process this information because we have a legitimate interest in running a secure, working website and showing you a useful map (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR). When you email us, we process your message in order to answer it.

How long we keep it

• Sessions, including your last map position, expire after 2 weeks.
• City lookups for an IP address are kept for up to 7 days.
• Server logs are rotated automatically, and old entries are deleted.
• Emails are kept for as long as we need them to deal with your request.

Your rights

Under the GDPR, you can ask to access, correct or delete your personal data, restrict or object to how we process it, and receive a copy of it. To do any of this, email us at hello@wattafork.com.

You can also complain to a data protection authority, such as the Hungarian National Authority for Data Protection and Freedom of Information (NAIH) or the authority where you live.

Children

Wattafork is not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

Changes

If we change how we handle your information, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
