The story
For more than 25 years, Restaurant Calla's has been a steady, respected presence in The Hague. Named after the calla lily—a South African flower whose Greek name means "beautiful"—the restaurant has built its reputation on quality and flavour.
The kitchen is described as classic French without unnecessary embellishment. Ingredients are sourced daily, with many fresh vegetables and herbs coming from the restaurant's own kitchen garden, Laantje Voorham. The cooking is pure and light, with colour on the plate forming the presentation.
The restaurant's approach has earned it a Michelin star, a place in the Lekker Top 100 at number 27, and 15 points from Gault&Millau. Calla's is also a member of Les Patrons Cuisiniers and the Club des Princes Champagne de Venoge.
A winning dish from the Riesling & Pinot Weeks competition gives a sense of the kitchen's style: turbot with North Sea crab, kohlrabi, morels, and a sauce made from roasted fish bones, paired with a Spätburgunder from the Ahr region.
Calla's is a city restaurant that works with regional possibilities. It serves lunch Tuesday through Friday and dinner Tuesday through Saturday. The wine list is carefully chosen to complement the French cuisine.
