The story
Since 1990, Restaurant Parkheuvel has been a cornerstone of Dutch gastronomy. Perched in Het Park, directly on the river Maas, the restaurant occupies a striking, round Art Deco building designed by architect Klunder in 1988. The interior is intimate, with a bar and lounge area leading into a dining room that curves playfully, offering every table a view of the water and the passing ships.
Chef Erik van Loo has been at the helm for over three decades. His cooking style is built on respect for the ingredient, classical techniques, and a constant pursuit of perfection. He combines French finesse with Dutch pragmatism, creating dishes that are an ode to seasons and purity. This dedication has earned the restaurant two Michelin stars and consistently high marks from GaultMillau.
Today, Van Loo works alongside his son, Juliën, who serves as Kitchen Chef. Juliën represents a younger generation, equally devoted to the craft. With an eye for the latest trends in gastronomy, he brings classic and modern together. As Erik puts it, “Cooking is putting down flavor, with it you give away something of yourself.”
The seasonal menu changes regularly, featuring the finest ingredients of the moment sourced from long-standing, trusted suppliers. A sample seven-course journey might include North Sea crab with avocado and yuzu, langoustine with cauliflower and truffle, or duck with beetroot and cherry. A four-course lunch menu is also available. The extensive wine list, curated by the sommelier, holds over 800 bottles from the world’s finest wine regions.
At Parkheuvel, the experience is one of pure relaxation: sit down, take in the view, and enjoy the modern cuisine that has made this Rotterdam institution a destination for over three decades.
